The Power BI team have expressed their intent to expand the list of DirectQuery-supported sources to include other sources such as IBM DB2, SAP Business Warehouse, MySQL, Google BigQuery, and others. As of this writing, Spark (version .9 and above), SAP Business Warehouse, and IBM Netezza are available as Beta or Preview DirectQuery sources.
