Saved Search

The Saved Search portlet is very similar to the list portlet, as it shows the results of a saved search. In other words, it shows the specific records returned by the search criteria to summarize the record, with a link to the actual record. Once again, this portlet is often used by inpidual contributors, and is enabled in the same way:

This portlet fixes the list portlet's greatest weakness: the number of records that will be displayed on the dashboard. With this portlet, you can limit the results by using the saved search criteria. A sales rep can display opportunities closing in a particular month, instead of all of the opportunities that are available in the list portlet.

It is still a judgment call, at the end of the day, to determine just the right amount of data to display on the dashboard. Too little, and the users may not have all the data they need to perform their tasks. Too much, and the dashboard is no longer operating as a summary.
