The pattern differentiation of wind overweighing heat in this case is mainly based on acute onset of the disease as well as the main symptoms of dryness, itching, stabbing pain, slightly swollen eyelid, profuse sticky white discharge, and conjunctival redness in the right eye. The stufy nose, aversion to wind, a red tongue with a thin white coating and a foating rapid pulse also indicate invasion of external wind without intense internal heat.
2. This patient should avoid wearing an eye mask or corneal contact lens. He should maintain good eyes hygiene, avoiding rubbing his eyes. Maintain normal bowel movements. Avoid spicy, faty or roasted foods. Handkerchiefs, towels, wash basins and other articles for daily use should be sterilized. Have the patient prevent his eye discharge and eye drops from afecting the healthy eye.
