序三

It is with great pleasure that I introduce this valuable resource for Health Professionals written by Associate Professors Yingge Tong and Suming Tian. They have brought great experience of contemporary Pain Medicine practice gained through over a decade of close collaboration and educational exchange with Australian Pain Medicine colleagues, both in China and in Australia.

The practice of Pain Medicine has flourished over the last decade. The advent of many new medications have revolutionized pain pharmacotherapy as well as reducing previously heavy reliance on opioids.Pain pharmacotherapy has also assumed a new role in juxtaposition to non pharmacological therapies with the result that patients are now more successfully managed with a biopsychosocial approach.Staff caring for hospital inpatients and outpatients are better able to enquire about pain intensity and interpret how function, sleep, mood and personal relationships can influence pain.In addition to this, health professionals from multiple disciplines are better able to assess pain and collaborate to provide more focused multidisciplinary assessments that form the basis for better pain management.

Yingge Tong and Suming Tian's book has reflected all of these important advances in the assessment and management of patients affected by pain with the result that health professionals in China are now able to access up to date information. The 11 chapters cover anatomy, physiology, evaluation, pharmacotherapy, nonpharmacologic therapy as relates to nursing, as well as pain in the postoperative period, cancer and cancer related chronic

It is exciting to contemplate the impact that this modern resource will have for the practice of Pain Medicine in China, disseminating the wealth of experience of these dynamic Authors.
